What to Recycle

What can I recycle?

Printed Materials

Recycle all newspapers and inserts.

The following may be recycled in curbside recycling bins:

  • Magazines printed on slick, glossy paper,
  • Paperback books,
  • Brown paper bags,
  • Directories, or
  • Publications printed on newsprint or other dull paper (e.g., comic books).

Please remove all paper or plastic wrappers from your magazines.

Books

NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR HOUSEHOLD BINS: Hardback books

Office Paper & Bulk Mail

The following may be recycled in curbside recycling bins:

  • Letters,
  • Envelopes,
  • Fliers,
  • Brochures,
  • Bulk mail,
  • Computer paper,
  • School paper, and
  • Construction paper.

NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR HOUSEHOLD BINS: Hardback books

Paperboard Boxes

Flatten and place in curbside recycling bins all paperboard boxes, such as:

  • Cereal boxes,
  • Shoe boxes,
  • Cracker boxes,
  • Snack boxes,
  • Rice boxes, and
  • Cake mix boxes.

NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR HOUSEHOLD BINS: Waxed paper or plastic wrap / packaging inside or outside of box

Corrugated Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard can be recycled, but it must be flattened and cut to fit inside the curbside recycling bins.

Cans

Aluminum and steel cans including EMPTY aerosol cans are acceptable. Please rinse.

EMPTY aerosol cans that have contained household products such as shaving cream, hair spray, or air freshener are acceptable. Please remove lids.

NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR HOUSEHOLD BINS: Aerosol cans that are not empty or that have contained pesticides, herbicides, or paint.

Plastics

We accept #1 and #2 plastics.

Plastic Recycling Symbol #1: PET or PETE

Acceptable plastics: Soft drinks, water, ketchup, and beer bottles; mouthwash bottles; peanut butter containers; salad dressing and vegetable oil containers

Plastic Recycling Symbol #2: HDPE

Acceptable plastics: Milk jugs; juice bottles; bleach, detergent, and other household cleaner bottles; shampoo bottles; butter and yogurt tubs; cereal box liners.

Rinse and remove the lids and pumps.

NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR HOUSEHOLD BINS: Motor oil containers, pesticide or herbicide containers, plastic wrap, plastic bags, wide-mouth plastic containers such as yogurt and margarine tubs.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT GLASS.
