Solid Waste Department

The City of Decatur’s Solid Waste Department provides residential garbage collection, bulk waste pickup, yard waste removal, and related environmental services for residents across the city. Operating under the Environmental Services Department, the Solid Waste team works daily to help keep Decatur clean, safe, and efficient.

Residential customers receive automated weekly household garbage collection using City-issued carts. The department also provides collection for yard debris, limbs, furniture, appliances, and other approved bulky items generated by homeowners. Certain small businesses may also qualify for garbage collection services based on location and volume requirements.

In addition to weekly collection services, the department assists residents with seasonal leaf collection, dead animal pickup, service questions, cart issues, holiday collection schedules, and other sanitation-related concerns. Public requests and service inquiries are coordinated through the Environmental Services Department.

Residents are encouraged to review the Solid Waste FAQs page for detailed information about collection guidelines, acceptable bulk items, billing questions, leaf collection, commercial service requirements, and holiday schedule updates.

Our Service is a Partnership: WE have a part, and YOU have a part!

By working together, we can make this partnership a satisfactory one for our community.
