Become a Firefighter

DFR consists of over 100 certified fire suppression and emergency medical personnel, assigned to 8 stations located across the city. The department operates around the clock on rotating 48/96 shifts to provide fire and emergency services to the residents and visitors of Decatur.

Our firefighters benefit from flexible scheduling, educational reimbursements and advancement opportunities. Newly hired firefighters are paid while undergoing training to become properly licensed and certified.
