A citizen extended her gratitude to Ofc. E. Cole for his assistance after she became lost and ended up on the opposite side of town without her phone. She was very grateful for his response and help.

"My husband was in an accident a few weeks ago and Officer Kirby was extremely helpful, kind, and just brought some type of peace to the situation. The accident was traumatizing to me as it involved my husband and two young toddlers. He also helped trail our vehicle to a safe location! I can’t brag enough, he was awesome!"

"I was just wanting to commend one of your officers for assisting me Friday night – Officer Ivey. When I left the ball game at Decatur, I had a flat and he assisted me and came and changed my flat. He was such a nice young man. I just wanted to say thank you so very much for his assistance and taking such good care of us. I pray you have a blessed day."

“My husband and I would like to express our gratitude toward Officer G. Jones. A large limb fell from a tree in our yard, completely blocking the road in front of our house. He came out and helped us move the limb out of the roadway, then stayed to help us clean up all of the smaller branches and pieces of bark. We are very grateful for his service to the community and his willingness to help others in need.”

"Some of our tires were randomly slashed last Thursday night and everyone told me I need to file a police report. I called you guys on Friday when I was told that and you guys sent Officer May to take a report. I just wanted to send you a message to tell you that he was very considerate, kind, and compassionate and gave us a lot of good information. We appreciate all the work that all of you do and especially wanted to commend Ofc. May for going above and beyond and trying to get us some answers, I hope you continue to stay safe and healthy, thank you all for the sacrifices you make every day!"

“Her calm demeanor was the right tool for the right time. She was a credit to your department and out city. So much in fact, that wafer we discussed her unusual skill set on the way back, I felt compelled to make you aware of it. We thanked her and I’m sure that is al she expected, but I hope that you will see fit to keep an eye on her for future growth.”

"Our police officer obsessed boy had his day made by Sgt. Jones with the Decatur Police Department. He got to ask him alllll the questions and Sgt. Jones even gave him a badge & official cup! Christian hasn't stopped talking about it since! Thank you to Sgt Jones for going above and beyond and being so kind to our boy! He is still talking about it today! He didn’t have to go above and beyond like he did, but we are so appreciative. Christian has had his police outfit on all day and called all of our family to tell them about meeting a real police officer! It was such a special experience! Thank you so much and to him, especially!"

"Officer Knight responded to my calls at least two times that I can remember. She showed me tough love, which is what I needed at that time, but she also encouraged me and inspired me and poured truth into me. I really wanted to call and thank her for not just being the officer that responded to my calls, but also for looking at me as person and just telling me that I can do this. If this is what I wanted to do, I can do it. Hearing that from someone else really helped me."

"Came across Sgt Lindley today while out with my grandchildren. He took the time to make the short visit a positive one and shed a good light on police officers in general. Please thank him for me."

"I’d like to give a shout out to one of your officers, Grant Jones! I live alone in an apartment that is right in the middle of all those shooting that happened and ever since all those shootings have happened he has took the time while he is working to drive around my apartment complex to make sure nothing is going on! I’m very grateful for him to do that! He definitely makes it feel safer around here!"

"I just wanted to take a moment and thank the officer who responded to my workplace this morning (Hospice of the Valley). I arrived at 6:30 am and found a homeless man asleep on a bench in our memorial garden. I was hesitant to approach him since others have said he has been belligerent on previous visits. I also thought if the police department handled the situation, it might have a longer lasting effect. I did not speak with Ofcr White, but I could tell that she handled this man amazingly well. He was not pleased about being awakened and really unloaded on her. Ofcr White was completely calm and let him diffuse his temper. She was kind but firm with him, and we are so thankful for her! We are super appreciative of her and of the quick response time as well."

"I was in Decatur Tuesday about 4 pm on 6th Ave near Prospect Avenue, and there was a small dog that had gotten away from its owner and was running in the street. The owner and I was trying to get to the dog and the traffic was very heavy. One of your officers stop turned on his lights traffic to allow myself and the owner to catch the dog and prevent it from getting run over. I don’t know the officers name nor did I get the car number, but I wanted to send a thank you from an animal lover where is active partners. Pray for our police around the country every day for your safety and appreciate what you do more than you’ll ever know!"

We had an incident involving a stolen vehicle this morning and Officer Segars was the one that reported to the call and ended up catching the thief and retrieving our property. That was amazing just that he caught the people responsible within minutes of our call to the police, but this officer was so professional and friendly and extremely helpful. You can imagine we were upset and the way he handled it was just above and beyond. We aren’t from Decatur and have dealt with a few officers before from other counties and never really had a great experience. Officer Segars actually cared and went way above and beyond. He even found some parts that were missing from the moped and returned them to us personally. I can’t say enough good things about Decatur PD and especially Office Segars. He is a credit to Decatur PD and we are so so thankful and grateful to him. - Whitley D.

He could tell I was afraid and reassured me he was there to help. When Bria D'Shae came with the gas can, he put the gas in my car and even stopped traffic so we could get back on the road safely. I wanted to shoot you a quick email to let you know about a situation that just happened and how well Officer Summers handled it. We had a student that was going into a kicking and hitting fit. He just so happened to have pulled into the parking lot at that time. He was able to get level with the student and calmly talk the student out of the fit. It was like day and night in the child's behavior once he started talking to him. He definitely needs to be praised for the amazing work he just did!!

Department Compliment

I would like to commend the Decatur Police Department and its officers . In today's world it is so often that many are critical of our law enforcement officers . However, I would like to commend our Police for their professionalism and service. On Monday my wife was involved in a accident. of course like many woman she was upset and shaken , However Ofc. Williams was not only helpful and understanding but his professionalism was exemplary. I must say that this is what I have found in every instance when dealing with our Law Enforcement officers . I personally feel Decatur Police could offer training to other agencies in our area on how to deal with the public. The department deserves a Kudos and a THANK YOU for remaining above the fray of today's politics and proving that Policing the community can be done fairly and professionally. "I’m a native of Decatur and now live in a different state. I’m visiting my parents for the weekend with my young son. When we arrived at the airport, I was concerned our car seat wasn’t secure in their car, so, on our way into Decatur, we stopped at the police department.Officer May saw us and asked if he could help. “I wanted to pass along a complement I received in reference to Officer Prince. Officer Prince encountered a citizen having a bad day and showed a great deal of compassion. He did his best to comfort her and calm her down. He called her family and stayed with her until they arrived. The citizen’s family couldn’t say enough good things about Officer Prince and his actions.”

"My daughter and I feel the two officers involved in a difficult traffic stop yesterday on the Beltline should be commended. We watched them maintain their composure while the driver acted agitated and hostile. Whoever those gentlemen were, they handled themselves so well." - Laura F.

“A big thank you to Officer Bates and Officer Bankhead. Driving home from work, I had a blowout on 6th Avenue and was able to make it to Mapco. At almost midnight, I had no one to call. They were there and got my spare tire put on my car for me. Let them know they are much appreciated." - Michelle W.

"I wanted to say that I appreciate Det. Michael Kitchens. Today, my mom had a car accident at Gordon Terry and McEntire Lane, and Det. Kitchens pulled up to the wreck right after it happened to make sure everyone was okay and to control traffic, until the officer working the wreck showed up.” - Jared T.

"We woke up yesterday and took our dogs out in our back yard, at which time we could hear a lot of yelling coming from the direction of the front of our house. We went inside and could see through our kitchen window that DPD was already on the scene -- the person who had been previously yelling was quieted down." - Candace B.
