What’s Ahead for Monday’s City Council Meeting: Traffic Improvements, Youth Services, and Short-Term Rental Software

Feb 13, 2026

The Decatur City Council will meet Monday, February 16, at 10 a.m. at City Hall to consider several items focused on infrastructure, public safety, and long-term planning.

Together, the items reflect ongoing work to improve traffic flow, strengthen services for families, and give departments better tools to plan for growth across the city.

Among the items scheduled for a vote are proposed intersection improvements along Beltline Road and Sandlin Road, architectural services for a new Decatur Youth Services facility, and software designed to help the city better track short-term rental activity.

Intersection Improvements at Sandlin Road and Beltline Road

Council members will consider a professional services agreement for engineering and design work related to intersection improvements along Beltline Road and Sandlin Road, one of the city’s busiest corridors.

The project focuses on improving traffic flow and safety through updated roadway design and coordination with the Alabama Department of Transportation. The work includes surveying, civil design, and project administration needed to move the project toward construction readiness.

This step allows the city to evaluate options and prepare for future improvements along the Beltline corridor.

New Decatur Youth Services Facility Moves Forward

The Council will also consider an architectural services agreement for the design of a new Decatur Youth Services facility.

The agreement allows planning and design work to begin on a facility intended to serve youth and families better while supporting staff operations and future program needs. Funding for the project has already been approved through the facility’s capital budget.

City leaders view the project as an investment in services that support young people and strengthen families across the community.

Short-Term Rental Software Proposed

Council members will also vote on an agreement with Deckard Technologies for short-term rental software that helps the city track and manage rental activity.

The platform uses data analytics to identify active listings, monitor trends, and support compliance with local regulations. Reports can include active rentals, booking trends, and registration activity, helping departments coordinate planning and enforcement efforts.

If approved, the software would be funded through lodging tax revenue and used by multiple city departments.

Meeting Information

The regular City Council meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Residents may attend in person or watch via the city’s livestream.

The next Council work session is scheduled for February 23 at 5 p.m.

As projects move forward and new items come before Council, residents can continue to follow updates through upcoming meeting previews and recaps on the City of Decatur website.
