Point Mallard Golf Course Renovations Continue as City Council Approves New Rate Structure
Renovation work continues at Point Mallard Golf Course as the City of Decatur moves forward with long-planned improvements designed to strengthen course conditions and improve the overall golfer experience.
Crews with ProRain of Decatur are currently installing the mainline of the course’s new irrigation system, which includes approximately 3.5 miles of pipe. The next phase of construction will focus on installing irrigation lines across fairways, greens, and tee boxes, adding roughly 50,000 additional feet of pipe throughout the course. The new system will enable staff to manage turf conditions better, improve playability, and reduce long-term maintenance challenges once the course reopens.
“This irrigation project is one of the most important investments we can make in the future of the golf course,” said Parks and Recreation Director Hunter Allen. “A modern system allows us to control water usage, protect turf health, and deliver more consistent playing conditions for golfers throughout the year.”
The Decatur City Council also approved a new unified rate structure for Point Mallard Golf Course during its recent meeting. The updated structure simplifies pricing, prioritizes access for Decatur residents, and creates a clearer system for golfers and staff.
Under the new model, green and cart fees are separate, and a single rate schedule applies on all days of the week. Resident green fees are set at $31 for 18 holes and $15.50 for nine holes, while guest rates are $44 for 18 holes and $22 for nine holes. Junior golfers ages 15 and under receive reduced rates. Seniors and military members continue to receive a 10 percent discount.
The approved structure also introduces monthly membership options designed to provide flexibility for regular players. Individual memberships include unlimited green fees, available seven days a week, with optional cart plans and family add-ons. Memberships remain individual and non-transferable, and standard tee time booking policies apply.
“Our goal was to simplify the rate structure while protecting value for our residents and making the course easier to use and understand,” Allen said. “This approach gives golfers more flexibility, supports families who want to play together, and helps us operate the course in a more sustainable way moving forward.”
Cart fees for non-members are set at $20 per rider for 18 holes and $10 for nine holes. Non-golfers riding in the same cart as a player may do so at no cost, a change intended to encourage participation and make the course more welcoming to new players.
City officials say the renovation work and updated rate structure work together to position Point Mallard Golf Course for long-term success, balancing affordability for residents with operational stability as improvements continue. In Decatur, We Are Better Together.
Additional updates on renovation progress and reopening timelines will be shared as construction advances.
