City of Decatur Provides Update on Recycling Operations Pause
The City of Decatur continues to pause recycling operations following the recent failure of the baler system at the City’s recycling processing facility.
Repairs to the failed equipment have been requested from the manufacturer, but completion is still several weeks away.
In the meantime, the Decatur City Council will consider a proposal on Monday to purchase a second baler for the facility. If approved, the additional equipment would increase processing capacity and reduce future downtime from equipment failures.
Even if approved next week, it could take four to six weeks for a new baler to be delivered, installed, and fully operational.
What Residents Need to Know
Recycling services remain suspended until repairs are completed.
- Recycling collection routes are not operating.
- Residents should not place recycling carts at the curb for pickup.
- City recycling drop-off locations remain closed.
Residents are encouraged to hold recyclable materials at home if possible. Materials may also be placed in regular household garbage until the recycling service resumes.
City officials will continue working with the manufacturer to restore operations as quickly as possible and will provide updates as progress is made.
