SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • This position is responsible for managing the City’s Building Code Inspection Department operations and staff and to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.


• Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff; handles employee concerns and problems; counsels staff; prepares employee performance appraisals, and provides guidance for training, development and personal/professional growth opportunities


• Provides leadership and support in the Building Code Inspection Department in operations of commercial and residential inspections/compliance; follow-up inspections; legal proceedings for code violations and resolution of customer challenges/concerns


• Drives continuous improvement initiatives in Building Code Inspection Department operations, processes, procedures, systems, field investigations, and customer service oriented objectives such as field investigations and enforcement to ensure education and compliance with city ordinances.

MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS • B.S. degree in a course of study related to occupational field (Architecture, Building Science, Building Construction; AND/OR experience commensurate with competency developed through formal education, including professional training in communication and management skills.


• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience or service.


• This position requires the candidate to possess or earn the following International Code Council (ICC) certification as:

·         Building Inspector (within one year of hire)

·         Building Plans Examiner (within two years of hire)

·         Fire Plans Examiner and Building Code Official (within two years of hire)


• Possession of the state Home Builders license of General Contractor license may be required.


• Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft office products/software.


• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
